Implant treatment includes assessment, surgery, healing and restoration. These stages do not always fit into one trip. The sequence depends on the starting condition of the mouth and the work needed to support a replacement tooth or bridge. A proposed travel schedule should follow the clinical plan rather than determine it.
What happens before placement?
The examination considers the teeth, gums, bite, bone and relevant health history. Some patients need treatment of active dental disease or additional procedures before an implant is placed. Ask which findings are already known and which can only be confirmed in person. This distinction helps you understand why an initial estimate may change.
Temporary teeth and healing
A provisional restoration can help during treatment, but the way it is supported and the load it can tolerate differ between cases. Immediate fixed teeth are not suitable for everyone. Ask whether you will have a removable or fixed temporary solution, how to clean it and what food restrictions apply while the implants heal.
Planning the restorative visit
A later stage may involve scans or impressions, laboratory work, fitting and adjustment of the final teeth. Your clinician needs to check the implants and surrounding tissues before deciding when that stage is appropriate. Leave enough time for fit, bite and comfort reviews rather than treating the fitting as a single guaranteed appointment.
Before you book flights
Request a stage-by-stage outline. Confirm how healing will be reviewed, what happens if the plan changes and whether another trip is likely. Ask how extra accommodation nights, rearranged transfers and changes to a provisional restoration are handled. Keep treatment records and contact instructions accessible between visits.
